Profile

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is the largest and the oldest national university in Indonesia. Founded on December 19, 1949; although the first lecture was given on 13 March 1946. Gadjah Mada University has been traditionally considered to be one of the top three premier higher education facilities in Indonesia. Gadjah Mada University is alleged as the university with most number of foreign students in Indonesia, up to 719 international students in the academic year of 2006. Starting in 2002, UGM began offering an english-language based medicine program for foreign and local students with an international standard curriculum. The faculty reached another milestone when it fully incorporated the problem based learning (PBL) in the teaching of medicine. In 2011, UGM is ranked 7th in the list of 100th best universities in southeast asia.

Location

UGM is located in Yogyakarta city, it has 18 faculties, 73 undergraduate study programs, 28 diploma study programs, and a graduate program of 62 study programs ranging from social science to engineering. It has approximately 55,000 students, 647 foreign students.

Medical program

Considered as the best medical program in Indonesia and also produces the best specialist doctors in Indonesia.

  • Regular program- for local students and foreign students sponsored by IDB and JPA or MARA.
  • Lectures conducted in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • International program – open for local and foreign students and is fully conducted in English.
Requirements:
  • Passing entrance exam organized by Gadjah Mada University.
  • At least 3(three) B Principle for STPM
  • CGPA of 3.5 (Matriculation)

Dentistry program

Dentistry is a 5 years course (4 yrs pre-clinical & 1 year clinical). All courses are held in Indonesian language with English as a second language.

Requirements
  • Passing entrance exam organized by Gadjah Mada university.
  • At least 3(three) B Principle for SPM
  • CGPA of 3.0 (Matriculation)

Pharmacy program

The faculty of pharmacy holds 3 majors:

  • Community and clinical pharmacy
  • Science and industrial pharmacy
  • Natural medicinal (herbs) pharmacy.
Requirements
  • Passing entrance exam organized by Gadjah Mada university.
  • At least 2(two) B Principle for STPM
  • CGPA of 2.0 (matriculation)
  • Diploma holders from Malaysian university can apply for transfer credit (with certified 60 credits) directly into degree program without examination, and is transferred directly into the fourth semester.
